Jack in the Dark was launched by Interplay Entertainment Corp. in the year 1993 which was loved by all old and young. It’s an interesting DOS game and can be played online by clicking here.
The gifts are different, but their value is invariably measured by the effect they produce on the owner. Often it happens that the content of the most massive boxes, provocatively adorned with ribbons and streamers, inferior content of the little box, easily fit in the palm. That is such a surprise – a small and modest, but totally unexpected and definitely a nice presented on Christmas day to fans of Alone in the Dark French developers.
Events Jack in the Dark takes place October 31 – the eve of all saints Day – in a small toy store, lost somewhere among the many streets of the big city. Lost grace Saunders, attracted by a mysterious light flickering behind the glass tempting storefronts, decides to go to the hospitably open door of the store and... get trapped in a vicious Jack-of-the-box! The only way to escape is to defeat the vile tyrant, feared by all folk toy and kidnapped the Santa Claus.
But what a fragile eight year old girl can oppose the treacherous villain? Against magic guns with grenades completely useless, so will have to rely solely on the bravery and ingenuity. The game mechanics are Jack in the Dark is much closer to the classic quest than adventure of Edward carnby: attention of the player is valued here much higher than the ability to shoot accurately or to deliver a powerful hook with the left, there is absolutely no violence. But did not disappear as a favorite on an earlier draft Infogrames logical puzzles, the clues which emerge in the in-game texts. From there you can learn interesting information about many toy characters, most of which takes a direct part in the unfolding events.
If we talk about technical execution, then there is, unfortunately, not so simple: beautiful, rich scenery, perfectly rendering the atmosphere of the little toy Kingdom, side by side with openly, angular character models, which is very difficult to guess a little girl or a canonical villain, and well-chosen sound effects are not backed by any music, which came here would be most handy. But this is just the cost of the advertising nature of the game, because the main goal of the project was to draw attention to the second part of the series Alone in the Dark.
This little Halloween adventure will take the average player no more than an hour, however, despite the modesty of the scale of the action and brevity of the plot, any sense of inferiority or writenote game does not occur. Jack in the Dark fits perfectly into the format of children's tales that parents usually read to their babies cosy Christmas evenings. Accessible, interesting, magical and most certainly a happy ending!
